ADHD
Oct 29 2007, 5:10 PM EDT Personally, I think the whole ADHD label, is a crock. I've been in the marketing arena for over 17 years - started out in biopharmaceuticals - and can tell you, that ADHD is bogus. When ever I hear the acronymn ADHD, or someone trying to label NORMAL PEOPLE, as ADHD, it first makes me sick to my stomach, then I just start laughing at the sheep-like behavior that we have succumbed to in this country. I even found numerous websites, that listed almost EVERY single person, who contributed works of art, science, technology, etc...from Einstein, to Thomas Jefferson, to George C.Scott. What is WRONG with you people? Please, STOP all this madness. While its is absolutely TRUE, that there are SOME people, to whom the label of ADHD "could" be applied, trust me, they are very far and few in between. Most of these "experts", who label on the ADHD bandwagon, don't even know the difference between, "gifted", "PTSD" or "ADHD", due to the similarities in their presentation or clinical manifestation. God help us....for we can no longer even think rational and will do whatever we can to deter individuality. God help us ALL. Jo 6 out of 64 found this valuable. Do you? |

Nov 1 2007, 12:28 AM EDT This is exactly why we need to keep spreading ADHD awareness because so many people like you are ignorant about it. I dare you to come live with one of us for a day and then tell us ADHD doesn't exist. Heck you woud;n't even need a full day in most case. A few hours would probably suffice is most of our cases! 2 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: ADHD
Nov 1 2007, 1:45 AM EDT First off what the heck does marketing or biopharmaceuticals have to do with ADHD? Does this mean that YOU are the expert on the subject? I was one of those non-believers until I was slapped in the face one day with the diagnosed with ADHD and Tourette's. At first I didn't believe it so I went to many different professionals and it came back to the same answer. My son went on meds and lots of specialized professional help and a great team of Teachers to work with him, and now my son has the best chance in life to succeed in all aspects of his life as he is quit an artist at the age of 14. Our home life and school for him was in shambles untill we got the help. So you tell me how you can have such and ignorant and bogus mind set when you have no clue of what you are even talking about, until you live with it I would keep my ugly little comments to myself. By the way PTSD doesn't present like ADHD and you forgot to add in Autism,Asperger's and Tourette's because about 70% of those people have ADHD. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Nov 1 2007, 2:08 AM EDT I forgot to add that ADHD is a chemical imbalance in the brain and that ADHD is recognized by National Institute of health and U.S. Department of Education and DSM of mental health disorders which all of the medical community uses. so there is your homework all done for you. Now why don't you go back to your lala land and play. 2 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

Do you believe in a broken leg, heart attacks, then why do you have to be cruel to not believe in something just because you can not see it. I challenge you to take on a family with children with adhd (without meds) and see what the outcome of your response would be. Furthermore, i do not know if i would want you in my home due to you lack on understanding in the mental health field. I do feel for you that you are so narrow minded. RE: ADHD
Nov 1 2007, 11:05 AM EDT In this country we do have many problems. Our foods have something like 1/20 of the nutrition that it use to. Maybe it is worse than that now. We don't get the minerals or vitamins that we need. We get loaded down with chemicals in our foods and then on top of the, the medications. Big pharm is a bad thing. ADHD is profiting Pharm companies billions of dollars. Anything that looks like ADHD is prescribed drugs. Stimulant drugs are very dangerous. They are making people psychotic, depressed, sleepless, and so on. So is it any surprise Pharms have drugs for each of these? I personally know people that have been Diagnosed ADHD that weren't. It is very common. I have "ADHD" but I can work with it. I use supplements, organic foods, and exercise to keep it under control. I have been learning about marketing and what these Pharms and our government are doing. I don't like your arogant approach though. There are those of us who are very sensitive to foods and ingredients but many don't know that is the underlying problem along with mineral deficiencies, heavy metals, chemical overload and such. 1 out of 3 found this valuable. I wanted to use a word that best describes a person like you. Anyone who can make the statements that you have must be IGNORANT! I'm 42 years old, and I can tell you that ADHD is absolutely real! It may not have the best label, but it does identify the "core" problem we have. If you would like to "learn" more, may I suggest a book called Driven To Distraction (Author: Dr. Edward M. Hallowell). If you're semi-intelligent, you should find all you need to know and more by just reading it!!! jdelmonaco (see my profile) 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: ADHD
Nov 1 2007, 2:37 PM EDT To Jo: Do you believe diabetes exists? Epilepsy? Cancer? Any mental illness? You can't usually "see" those either - but they DO exist. I know that ADD/ADHD went through a period of time where it became a catch-phrase for any undisciplined behaviour or problem behaviour, but as medical professionals, educators, etc. have become more and more aware of the true nature of this dis-order, it is making the world aware of it in a big way. And that's good, because the millions and millions of us that truly do suffer from it are learning more and more about ourselves and how to deal with our difficulties. There are many ignorant people out there who think just like you do. Have you ever heard the phrase, "walk a mile in my shoes"? Well, I invite you to my world to learn what it is like. I prefer to call my disorder "Executive Function Disorder" because those are the things that I have a problem with. Organizing, prioritizing, staying on task, interupting, etc. I am 58 years old and look back at a lifetime of never fitting in, always feeling "different" and not quite right. At 45, when I was diagnosed with ADD, it was like someone finally turned on the light in my dark room. All the people on this website have lived through this. Jo, why don't you try to learn a little more about the people you are judging and see if you can't become an advocate, rather than a critic. Linda Unwin 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: ADHD
Nov 1 2007, 4:09 PM EDT I have worked with children for 15 years. Yes there is ADD and ADHD in children. Some of the stress of the parents rubs off on the young child who does not know how to express their own feelings. They act out, even when they are old enough to know better, as an expression of their own frustration. This is where homeopathic remedies that reduce these built-up stresses in the children and adults that live with them can be really helpful. Also avoiding foods that increase stress - like food colorings and high fructose corn syrup - that make anyone more irritable, is absolutely necessary. And then eating a "real" food diet that reduces stress can make behavior changes very quickly. ADHD is real! and I feel for parents who are dealing with children with ADD, but there is real help available, without pharmaceutical drugs. If you are interested check out my book "Natural Choices for Attention Deficit Disorder" at www.naturalchoicesforyou.com 1 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: ADHD
Nov 1 2007, 8:44 PM EDT I truly believe everyone is entitled to their opinion; we live in a country with free speech. What I'm curious about is...what is the basis of your information? What is your background? What are your credentials? I'd like to try to understand your reasoning. I agree with the replys of the others. I know - without a doubt - through experience and education, that AD/HD does exist - in an estimated 18 million Americans. There is so much controversy and conflicting information; I can understand the confusion. As Tara said, that's why it's so important to have these forums and other vehicles to promote awareness and increase education. Can you imagine how a parent feels when they hear someone say that ADHD is not real...although they struggle with the challenges in their child(ren) every day? When you have to fight to get your child's needs met? Or an adult who has lost many jobs or important relationships because of this disorder? It's like a slap in the face. Are you suggesting we/they are just lazy, crazy, stupid, irresponsible? Or our children act the way they do due to poor parenting? I raised 4 children - and although I was a consistent parent, one of my children had ADHD. I know typical, normal behavior for children...and I know that no matter how hard she worked and how hard she tried...she struggled with focus and staying on track. She had many car accidents as a teen. She's a lovely young lady today - a mother, a business owner, she has 2 degrees...but I tell you - she has to work much harder than others to achieve and maintain this success. And, I know it took buckets of tears (hers and mine), years of feeling like I was failing my daughter...and, then standing back and having to watch my daughter fight her own way through college, as a single mom. Being there as support but knowing she had to do it on her own... When you say ADHD is not real, you minimize our experiences. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |
