I'm so happy to have been invited to check this site out. I haven't really taken the time until now to sign up, but have stopped by a couple times and seen growth each time. I'm sure that the growth will continue and this site will shine. 6  out of 6 found this valuable. Do you?

You are welcome, has your son ( how old is he?) been diagnosed by a practioner very familiar with ADHD, I think this is the most important thing. In my mission for coaching also want to dedicate time to education of the medical community. I have found the most informed of Doctors to be Child Psych. specialists in the feild of ADD/ADHD, I also do work with parents of children who have ADD so they can be aware of some of the challenges, and not impact self-esteem with these wonderful children. I noted during my nursing career that some parents did not even believe in the concept of ADD/ADHD. Are there any other family members that have been diagnosed? Good to talk with you and Bloom Where you are! Do you find this valuable?

And thank you for the welcome, I, beside being a nurse have a degree in Human Services, and specialized in Chemical Dependency, which I think is a co-occuring disorder to ADD, the old self medicate. I hope your sons do get formally diagnosed and would recommend an Pediatric Psych that specializes in ADHD. In my experience as a nurse for twenty years many Doctors just do not have the time to delve into all the nuiances of the disorder, in the meantime these kids are losing self-esteem. That is also where a coach can be very helpful both to the children and the parents of these special kids. Do you find this valuable?

My 2 sons are 19 and 22, they are aware of their symptoms, but chose not to go for anything formal as far as diagnosing their condition. I feel that they are better adjusted, than I was and my oldest is maturing and is moving in a positive direction in his life. They both know that help is out there and are making their own choices.

I learned after I was diagnosed, that I was self medicating with nicotine when I smoked and never knew it. I never understood why I never felt quite right after I quit. I wasn't till I was on medication that I discovered part of my old self from smoking days. I think many people with ADHD self medicate out of desparation.
