Personally, I think the whole ADHD label, is a crock. I've been in the marketing arena for over 17 years - started out in biopharmaceuticals - and can tell you, that ADHD is bogus. When ever I hear the acronymn ADHD, or someone trying to label NORMAL PEOPLE, as ADHD, it first makes me sick to my stomach, then I just start laughing at the sheep-like behavior that we have succumbed to in this country.
I even found numerous websites, that listed almost EVERY single person, who contributed works of art, science, technology, etc...from Einstein, to Thomas Jefferson, to George C.Scott. What is WRONG with you people? Please, STOP all this madness. While its is absolutely TRUE, that there are SOME people, to whom the label of ADHD "could" be applied, trust me, they are very far and few in between. Most of these "experts", who label on the ADHD bandwagon, don't even know the difference between, "gifted", "PTSD" or "ADHD", due to the similarities in their presentation or clinical manifestation. God help us....for we can no longer even think rational and will do whatever we can to deter individuality. God help us ALL. Jo |

We have a website about ADHD (called ADHS) there in Germany (http://www.ads-web.de) and are fascinated from the American professionality. Still a long way to go in Germany.

I realize that it is too late for a contest submission. But, after reading some of the posts, (very enlightening by the way), something came to me. One of the things that non-linear "Hyperactive Dreamers" are great at is EMPATHY, even if it may come across as insincere to the linear folks or too starry eyed. Now, the linear folks, if I may be so bold, do not have a built-in empathy vibe (that is my opinion) In other words, if something/someone does not blatantly add value to their current situation etc., they often have a tendency to simply discard it. So, if they do not believe AD/HD has an immediate effect on their lives, why would they need to be aware/educated? This of course is wrong in my book, as we "as non-linears" are having to adapt to the linear ways of society EVERY DAY. SO. MY proposal. Challenge them to live a day without AD/HD, Non-Linears or "Hyperactive Dreamers". Sound confusing? It's a twist. Instead of trying to get them to understand the challenging part of non-linear wiring, reach them by taking away the innovation/passion that "Hyperactive Dreamers" bring to society. A day without electricity, light, flight, theories of relativity, breathtaking classical music scores and jaw-dropping works of art to gaze at.....yes, I dare them to try and live A DAY WITHOUT AD/HD. That would be one passionless, stoic day to be alive, don't you think? However, one heck of a "wake-up" call.

ADHD Awareness Contest is an excellent idea indeed! I appreciate the promoters of this approach. If more and more people participate in such contests and contribute their views and constructive suggestions we can overcome ADHD and help ADHD victims a lot in leading them towards sound health and normal behavior. Awareness contests like these will definitely yield positive results and only by making people know more about ADHD and by bringing people with ADHD concerns closer we can reach to the core of the problem, have a better understanding of the actual nature of different ADHD patterns and evolve more effective solutions. It is better to formulate a policy to give international significance to ADHD awareness and bring to task all ADHD concerns to a single platform thus enabling the master research organizations to view with different angles all ADHD patterns universally and know which strategy suits each pattern and also know why different approaches are needed for different patterns in different location and conditions.
I hope the more we attempt to promote such ADHD awareness the more we know the scope of ADHD and a day will come soon, all ADHD concerns will have a permanent relief. |

Another idea I have had is to adress the school district and have an ADD/ADHD day for the kids. At this children who have ADD/ADHD can do posters that show their creative side, or high intelligence for their peers to see, this would both empower the children and help to change the ADD lableing into a more positive one. I think the staff would greatly benefit from this also.
I noted in several postings that bracelets and buttons were mentioned, I think for all who have ADD a buttons that say "I am a freind of Whooppee" we have ADD would also target people who need more current role models. Mostly to get across that ADD is not a Deficit but a gift!!! |

An 8 yr old boy with ADHD created this website after being teased by classmates from having ADHD. He decided to do something about it--and he sure did. He is selling rubber bracelets--like the kind people are wearing for cancer support, etc. His are an attractive bright blue and white mixture and say "ADHD Rocks" on them. Learn more and buy your $3 bracelet now at http:www.smileco.org. Attention Deficit Disorder Resources ( http://www.addresources.org ) is selling them at their fall conference plus all their Board members are wearing them. Let's start a movement--make people aware that ADHD is not something to be ashamed of.

I forgot to mention that I've been wanting to choreograph a skit or a play via my local ADD/ADHD support group (ADDults Calgary c/o Ingrid, Moray & Adrian) and perform it regularly at local venues to increase awareness of what it is like to live with ADD/ADHD. This idea could be abbreviated into TV commercials and Radio commercials. WE ARE AWESOME GUYS! Just Love Yourself.

We need a rock concert featuring various artists with ADHD along with politicians, actors, actresses, celebrities with ADHD to attend and support education, awareness and acceptance of the Gift of ADHD. Embrace your Gift could be the slogan on the t-shirts (bright orange t-shirts) and we could also have bracelet bands with the same slogan. ADHD is hugely impacting our world today. It is time to wake up and smell the coffee. Love and Blessings to All, lw.

I want to do workshops for teachers, and especially the medical community regarding the gift that ADD can be, I am working on my coaching business, Bloom where you Are, and notifying the medical community in my area via mail of my services. I do not want my coaching to be just on the phone, but I would like to be a real touchable person who has lived and thrived with ADD. So basically, I am wanting to do some work shops for the community and let them know that patients with ADD and ADD students, have already had their self-esteem affected in a negative way and we need to honor their special talents, and work them into a society that likes sameness, not the unique!

It would be very unprofessional to talk about ADHD and not to mention creative side that these people posses. Unfortunately, many creative individuals that only perform through their passion, are unrecognized, their unique thinking style and the way they experience the world is more than often interpreted as deficit or disorder.
So, I am representing you a new name - Hyperactive dreamers! See and learn more about them at www.hyperactivedreamers.com Somebody mentioned that these people need a positive name, which I agree. Instead of focusing on their strengths, environment is focusing on things that they do poorly creating low self esteem and closing their huge potential that arises within their passion. And that what ADHD is doing. Educating public that being inattentive, hyperactive and impulsive is something bad, something that needs to be removed, while in those traits lies different perception, ability to see something from whole new perspective, mind full of ideas, ability to explore and of course, to be creative.

Having a son with ADHD...I have spent lots of time and effort and gobs of ink on paper... creating a NOVEL approach to ADHD. My published book titled FIDGETS has already created much awareness to/for people all over the country and abroad. It's made thousands of people AWARE of what it's like to live in a body and mind while struggling with ADHD and FIDGETS also shares how it feels to have to live with a loved one suffering with this disorder. FIDGETS has been created through many years of research, and plenty of love and tender loving care and I would like to suggest that anyone who is involved in anyway with ADHD - teachers, librarians, health care workers, parents, siblings and more...help to share FIDGETS' postive message and insights to thousands of more people who need to BECOME MORE AWARE... that they are NOT alone in any of this and that there is always hope for either themselves or a loved one.

this would be a digital ad that can be used on places like you tube or even as public service on regular tv. starts with ADHD and common definitions of adhd. then intersperese it with pictures of famous individuals with adhd and their accomplishements underneath their pix and pictures of the ordinary Joe or Mary with what they accomplished like finished college, more organized, a productive citizen..then...." ADHD the person maybe beside you". (NOTE: please let me know if somebody is going to use this because I am in the middle of working on a script for this as a personal project with my kids". I cannot copyright the concept yet")
