Personally, I think the whole ADHD label, is a crock. I've been in the marketing arena for over 17 years - started out in biopharmaceuticals - and can tell you, that ADHD is bogus. When ever I hear the acronymn ADHD, or someone trying to label NORMAL PEOPLE, as ADHD, it first makes me sick to my stomach, then I just start laughing at the sheep-like behavior that we have succumbed to in this country.
I even found numerous websites, that listed almost EVERY single person, who contributed works of art, science, technology, etc...from Einstein, to Thomas Jefferson, to George C.Scott. What is WRONG with you people? Please, STOP all this madness. While its is absolutely TRUE, that there are SOME people, to whom the label of ADHD "could" be applied, trust me, they are very far and few in between. Most of these "experts", who label on the ADHD bandwagon, don't even know the difference between, "gifted", "PTSD" or "ADHD", due to the similarities in their presentation or clinical manifestation. God help us....for we can no longer even think rational and will do whatever we can to deter individuality. God help us ALL. Jo |

I enjoy sharing with people that I was dx with add about 3 years ago, I'm now 41. I get asked a lot of questions and feel I've provided them with info. either they had that was not quite right or enlightened them some way. I volunteer a lot in the local elementary school and when I educate people about the some of the signs in girls (my daughter was dx with adhd); although in school she was "perfect", I swear you can see lightbulbs switch on in their heads. I love to tell kids I know that have add/adhd that I have it too. What a relief for them, wow she is okay. I like to tell them how scientists now think some our greatest inventors had add/adhd, such as Einstein, etc. That is so cool to them. School can be so frustrating to a kid w/adhd, but to have people say, "hey, I have what you have and I'm okay." and guess who else probably had it? All these really cool, famous people. The eyes look up, shine bright and they say "really?!!"

I'm so happy to have been invited to check this site out. I haven't really taken the time until now to sign up, but have stopped by a couple times and seen growth each time. I'm sure that the growth will continue and this site will shine.

The AccessAbility SIG's mission is to (1) provide resources, information, and support to technical communicators with disabilities; (2) provide resources that will help technical communicators make the products they create accessible to end users with disabilities; and (3) provide strategic leadership in both areas through positive initiatives and open communication, both inside and outside the Society for Technical Communication.
This is one of the most information-rich sites you will find anywhere that addresses special needs. It also includes a number of ADD-related articles. http://www.stcsig.org/sn/index.shtml |
